What if the voice agent gets it wrong? How we test before going live and what happens after

It can, and anyone who says otherwise is selling a promise they cannot keep. An AI voice agent is not deterministic: faced with the same question, it may answer in slightly different ways. What matters is not the illusion of zero mistakes, it is what happens next: mistakes are rare at the critical points, they are detected and the customer is never left with nowhere to go. That comes from four layers: test beforehand, limit what the agent decides, give a way out to a person, and review the calls afterwards.

What mistakes happen

The most common:

  • mishearing a name, an address or a phone number;
  • answering with outdated information, such as a price or opening hours that changed;
  • trying to answer something that should go to a person;
  • not understanding an unusual request and repeating the same question;
  • having no answer for a situation nobody foresaw.

Almost all of them are solved with good rules, up to date information and a clear way out.

Before taking customer calls: simulated calls

Before an agent goes live, we test it with simulated calls. We create the cases that happen most and the difficult ones: the customer in a hurry, the question outside its scope, the request to speak to a person, the change to a booking. The agent only takes real customers after it passes.

It is cheaper to find the mistake in a simulation than in a real call.

Clear rules on what it can and cannot do

A good voice agent has written limits:

  • it only answers what is in the business information;
  • when it does not know, it says so and does not make things up;
  • it knows what it never decides alone, such as prices outside the list or commitments only a person can make.

A way out to a person

When the agent does not solve it, or the customer is not satisfied, there has to be a path:

  • during opening hours, the call is passed to a person;
  • outside opening hours, the agent records the contact request with the details needed, so someone can call back.

The worst case is not the agent not knowing the answer. It is the customer being left with nobody.

Afterwards: review the calls and improve

A voice agent is not a project you install and forget. On the Nauva platform, you see the summary, the recording and the transcript of every call. The platform scores the calls automatically and, when it spots something that can improve, a new question, a missing rule, an outdated answer, it suggests the fix. Nothing changes without your approval: you accept or reject it.

That way the agent improves with the calls that keep happening, and the business always decides.

Transparency with the caller

At the start of the call, the agent identifies itself as an artificial intelligence assistant. It is more honest and avoids misunderstandings, and it is what European transparency rules expect from AI systems that talk to people. If the call is recorded, the customer must also be told, and the agent does so.

Today voices are natural and many people only realise they are talking to an AI because they are told. That does not replace a good experience: the customer wants to be understood straight away and get an answer.

How to know it is going well

Instead of asking "did it make a mistake?", track:

  • what share of calls were resolved without passing to a person;
  • how many bookings or contact requests were recorded;
  • which questions came up that the agent could not answer;
  • how many calls were reviewed.

What we do not promise

We do not promise zero mistakes. We commit to what is within our reach: testing before taking customer calls, guaranteeing a way out to a person and analysing the calls afterwards.

Frequently asked questions

Can the voice agent give a customer wrong information?

It can happen, especially if the information it has is outdated. That is why the agent only answers with what is in the business information, says it does not know when it does not, and the calls are reviewed.

What happens if the agent does not know the answer?

It passes the call to a person, during opening hours, or records a contact request so someone can call back.

Will the customer notice they are talking to an AI?

The agent identifies itself as an artificial intelligence assistant at the start of the call. Current voices are natural, and many people only notice because of that notice.

How is a voice agent tested before going live?

With simulated calls that cover the usual cases and the difficult ones. The agent only takes customers after passing the tests.

Who fixes it when there is a mistake?

The platform suggests the fix after scoring the call, and the person in charge at the business accepts or rejects it. Nothing changes without your approval.

Can I listen to or read the calls?

Yes. The Nauva platform shows the summary, the recording and the transcript of every call.
